Also known as wrinkle fillers and facial fillers, dermal fillers are some of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. Typically made out of a smooth gel with powerful active ingredients, these treatments are injected into target areas to volumize the skin. Dermal fillers can reverse sagging, eliminate wrinkles, and boost volume thanks to their advanced formulas and the precision of their delivery. More importantly, treatment is quick, simple, and safe treatments that offer enhancement with absolutely no downtime or recovery period.
Early in their development, filler solutions received their name because they were injected into the dermis, the layer of skin below the epidermis. Today, there are many different types of fillers, some of which are actually injected subdermally instead of in the dermis. Many of them are made out of substances like hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite—all substances that are typically found in the human body. This allows for a large degree of safety because there’s little to no risk of rejection or an allergic reaction.

Juvederm® Ultra and Ultra Plus are some of the most popular wrinkle fillers in the industry. Both are composed of highly cross-linked hyaluronic acid particles, allowing for a soft, smooth gel that looks natural once they’re injected underneath the skin. As a softer gel with smaller particles, Ultra is ideal for smoothing out mild to moderate wrinkles, smoothing out smoker’s lines on the upper lip, reducing the appearance of scars, and plumping up the lips. Ultra Plus is a thicker gel with heavier particles, making it perfect for moderate to severe signs of aging like deep nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Despite their differences, both of these dermal fillers are durable enough to last for up to a year.
Volume loss in the cheeks is one of the most common signs of aging. To combat volume loss in the cheeks, Aesthetic Art offers Juvederm® Voluma, a hyaluronic acid filler that’s designed especially for lifting and contouring hollowed cheeks. Voluma is formulated using VYCROSS technology, which means it’s composed of hyaluronic acid particles of different weights; this allows it to have a soft, yet long-lasting gel. It’s also one of a rare few dermal fillers that can last for up to two years. With Voluma, patients can have fuller, more lifted, and more defined cheeks.
This is another hyaluronic acid product with that’s formulated using Vycross technology. Volbella’s softness is perfect for targeting smoker’s lines, those small vertical wrinkles that appear on the upper lip. Along with being one of the most effective wrinkle fillers for fine lines on the upper lip, Volbella’s soft gel is perfect for subtly enhancing the lips in terms of volume and contours. That smooth gel also allows for an easier injection, making this dermal filler perfect for delicate areas like the upper lip and the lips. Despite its soft gel, Volbella’s results will last as long as a year.
These three dermal fillers are also hyaluronic acid fillers. While Restylane® is perfect for lip enhancement and mild to medium wrinkles, Lyft’s heavier formula is used for lifting the cheeks and medium to deep wrinkles. Silk is specially designed for plumping the lips and reducing the appearance of delicate perioral rhytids, also known as smoker’s lines.
These treatments were designed to target deep to moderate wrinkles like nasolabial folds and marionette lines with natural results. Refyne and Defyne are formulated using XpresHAn Technology™, meaning their gels are flexible enough to move along with your facial movements but sturdy enough to hold their form and provide lift. Their results will look natural no matter what, even when you’re laughing or smiling. Refyne is a softer gel for a more delicate treatment, but Defyne is a stronger gel for more severe cases. Although both wrinkle fillers are known for their natural results their formulas are incredibly durable and allow both dermal fillers to last for up to a year.

All the dermal fillers offered by Aesthetic Art have unique formulations, active ingredients, and consistencies, giving them specific properties. These make them optimal treatments for different conditions; in order for patients to find the perfect procedures, they should discuss their treatments with Aesthetic Art’s experts.
The smooth gel solution is injected into target areas like wrinkles, the upper lip, the cheeks, and the lips to create volume. When we age, the skin becomes delicate, less elastic, and thin, leading into fold into the wrinkles and deep creases we associate as signs of aging. When injected into wrinkles like the nasolabial folds, the dermal fillers create volume under the skin, which then smooths out the wrinkles. They can also lift cheeks that have hollowed due to age related volume loss and enhance the volume of thin lips, creating fuller contours.
Active ingredients can include hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite. Because they’re composed of substances naturally found in the body, the gel carrier and the active ingredients are safely absorbed by the body over time.
Dermal fillers are incredibly safe and made up of substances naturally found in the body. This makes it highly unlikely that a patient will have an allergic reaction to the substance or somehow reject it. More importantly, dermal fillers are delivered through injection, meaning there’s no incisions or sutures needed. These noninvasive procedures have very little risks compared to surgery and require absolutely no downtime. Results are also temporary and, in certain cases, immediately reversible.
Aesthetic Art is proud to have highly trained aesthetic physicians and injectors performing our treatments because we want to deliver the utmost safety and artistry. Our injectors are trained to maximize the levels of safety with each procedure.
The results of dermal fillers are temporary and, depending on the filler, many of them wear off after around 6 months to two years. Since they are natural substances, all dermal fillers will eventually be reabsorbed safely in the body. If needed, an enzyme called hyaluronidase can be used for hyaluronic acid fillers to break down the fillers in the skin and reverse the effects.
The smooth gels in the wrinkle fillers are quite easy to inject. Many patients report the treatments as feeling similar to a quick pinch. It’s important to point out that a patient’s experience with will depend on their sensitivity in the treatment area. Patients will be able to use a topical anesthetic if needed; however, many of the formulas for the Aesthetic Art’s dermal fillers have lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which will further help with any discomfort.
When it comes to treating wrinkles, dermal fillers work by enhancing volume in the skin; when they’re injected into a fine line or wrinkle, they plump and smooth out the skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Botox and Dysport work by relaxing the muscles that lead to laugh lines, crow’s feet, and other expression lines. Dermal fillers can also plump sagging cheeks and flat lips, while Botox and Dysport cannot.
